Oxford Sigma Awarded Silver Status by the UK Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS)

06 Jun 2025 | Defence, News

Oxford Sigma is proud to reaffirm its commitment to the UK Armed Forces community. Since signing the Armed Forces Covenant on 9 April 2021, the company has taken meaningful steps to back service personnel and their families. This commitment was first recognised with the Bronze award in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) in April 2023, and most recently with Silver status on 21 May 2025. Oxford Sigma is now officially listed on the ERS website as a recognised supporter of defence personnel.

The ERS celebrates employers who go beyond pledges to actively support the Armed Forces community. Awards—Bronze, Silver, and Gold—are given to organisations that align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant and demonstrate real, ongoing support to defence and the Armed Forces community. Earning Silver status is a strong endorsement of Oxford Sigma’s belief that individuals from all backgrounds—including the Armed Forces—can play a vital role in advancing fusion energy. The company actively encourages applications from the Armed Forces community and is proud to have several active military reservists on its team, with plans to welcome more veterans in the future. Oxford Sigma values the unique mindset and transferable skills that military personnel bring to the workplace; proudly supporting those who serve.

Looking ahead, Oxford Sigma is working towards achieving Gold status. This next step reflects a growing commitment to maturing its defence-related values and expanding support for veterans, reservists, cadet force adult volunteers, military spouses, and members of international reserve, including those in the United States National Guard.

“Achieving the silver award is evidence of Oxford Sigma’s commitment to the Armed Forces and defence industry. Meeting the stringent criteria associated with a silver award is tough, especially for a small company which further highlights the significance associated with this award.”

About the Armed Forces Covenant

Signing of the  Armed Forces Covenant is a key requirement of the ERS awards and it is a promise that together we acknowledge and understand that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, including the bereaved, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy, and society they serve with their lives. Its two principles are that, recognising the unique obligations of, and sacrifices made by, the Armed Forces:

  • Those who serve in the Armed Forces, whether Regular or Reserve, those who have served in the past, and their families, should face no disadvantage compared to other citizens in the provision of public and commercial services.
  • Special consideration is appropriate in some cases, especially for those who have given most such as the injured and the bereaved.
