Davis & Musgrove Ltd has been selected for an engineering position on a European Spallation Source (ESS) framework with M5Tec for suppling expertise on neutron target engineering, accelerator experience, and mechanical design engineering. This framework enables us to support M5Tec in supplying our expertise and assist with the development of ESS as a world-leading research facility in Europe.

ESS is one of the largest science and technology infrastructure projects being built today. ESS is a multi-disciplinary research facility based on the world’s most powerful neutron spallation source.

The facility design and construction include the most powerful linear proton accelerator ever built, a helium-cooled tungsten target wheel, state-of-the-art neutron instruments, a suite of laboratories, and a supercomputing data management and software development centre. The construction of the facility began in 2014.
Design, construction and fitting-out activities continue today in different stages whereas the planning for the ESS user programme is also ongoing. Scientists and engineers from more than 100 partner laboratories are working on the design, manufacturing, delivery and installation on the many advanced technical components of the ESS facility.
